The short version
Tally keeps what you tell it about your own watching, and little else. We never see or store your password, we do not sell anything to anyone, and you can delete the whole account from inside the app or the website at any time.
What we store
- Who you are: the name and email address Apple or Google passes to us when you sign in, plus a username. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your address, we only ever receive Apple's forwarding address and never your real one.
- What you watch: the titles you shelve, the watches you log, your ratings, reviews and notes, and which service you watched something on.
- What you pay for: the streaming services you add and the monthly price you enter, so the subscription check can tell you what is going unused.
What we never store
- Passwords. Sign-in is handled entirely by Apple and Google, so there is no password here to leak.
- Card or bank details. Tally does not take payments.
- Your streaming accounts' credentials. The browser extension reads your viewing history from a session you are already signed in to, in your own browser.
Who else sees it
Nobody buys this data from us. We use a small number of services to run Tally: a hosting provider, a database provider, and the catalogue and availability sources credited in the footer. Your reviews and ratings are public on your profile; your diary, shelves and subscriptions are not.
Deleting your account
Settings contains a delete option on both the website and the iPhone app. It removes your account, diary, shelves, ratings, reviews and subscriptions immediately and permanently. There is no soft delete and no recovery window, so take a copy of anything you want to keep first.
